These caravans are similar to the full size or standard caravan except that the top portion of the roof is made of vinyl and is raised when setting up or lowered for travel. Typically, a 300-400mm gusset made of vinyl is used to allow the roof to be raised and lowered. This is like a vinyl skirting with windows and flyscreens to allow airflow through the caravan. The roof is lifted using handles and it is fast and easy to set up. The roof is held down for travel by 4 external clips, a typical set up time to open a pop-top roof is 1-2 minutes.
Pop-Top caravans are lighter to tow than a full size van and more aerodynamic for travel as they are around 2m high whereas a full size van is closer to 3m high which will help you save on fuel. Pop-Top caravans also have more interior height for those people who are over 6″4′ where this may become an issue in a full size caravan.
